…And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead (thankfully usually abbreviated to Trail of Dead)’s new LP ‘Lost Songs’ is their eighth full-length, studio-produced offering to date; and there seems to be any quenching of their seemingly endless flow of creative juices anytime soon. Opening with an ominous drone accompanied by slowing building percussion, lead track ‘Open Doors’ then launches into a barrage of guitars and vocals and persists at that same pace until the song reaches an exhausting end. Title track ‘Lost Songs’ is more subdued than the energetic opening, as well as considerably shorter, but is no less impressive with its jaunty guitar melody and rhythmic drumming – it tells the tale of many a lost thing. A few tracks on and ‘A Place A Rest’ is perhaps the strongest track present, full of character and brimming with all the energy Trail of Dead are famous for unleashing at their live shows it is three minutes of unadulterated fun. Whilst the tracks on this album are said to never have actually been lost, and listener is sure to be thankful that they eventually found their ears, and will likely enjoy listen after listen of this great album.
