Based in London, and with roots in Scotland and Sudan, Eliza Shaddad's music goes some way to reflecting this geographic spread with its infectious wisdom. Following 2012's 'Waters EP', Shaddad's latest release 'Run EP' accelerates the pace slightly as opening track and preceding single 'Wars' set things off at a more-than-leisurely pace. Shuffling percussion propels the track forward as guitar melodies weave and the inquisitive vocal asks: "Who are you fighting for?" Title track 'Run' evolves from sultry to frantic throughout its duration, and 'Always' sways around the repeated guitar line which provides the base for its composition. The sparse but effective use of guitar throughout Shaddad's work is characteristic, the appropriate choice of tone paired with her emotive vocal catalyse the power of her songwriting abilities. Closer 'Make It Go Away' strikes a reflective tone like the rest of the EP and its predecessor, and its this measured take on the "pop" genre that makes Shaddad's music so lovable. With two thoroughly enjoyable EPs completed, focus may now turn to an accomplished debut album on the horizon.
