Being on the internet, Shout4Music doesn't have a back page. But if it did, it might look a bit like this.

We've asked a bucket full of bands and an array of artists to answer our questions on life, the universe and everything.

For this edition of The Back Page, we've crossed the Atlantic to interrogate Canadian Dan Mangan (he's the one on the right of the picture!). If the name sounds familiar, we featured his song 'Post-War Blues' in our Top Ten Downloads of the Week feature a couple of weeks back.

The great news is it's still available with not a penny to pay.

And if you like that, you'll be delighted to know he's got a whole album, 'Oh Fortune' out TODAY! He's also playing the End of the Road Festival Christmas Shindig in London on 8 December 2011.

What are you listening to right now?

Been listening to Bry Webb's new album, 'Provider' a lot. He used to lead a band called The Constantines that I was a huge fan of. This is quite different. It's so subtle and tastefully put together. He supported a tour of ours last year on his own. He didn't have any recordings together then, but since then he recorded Provider. Now he's on tour supporting Feist.

Tell us a joke.

How many flies does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Two, but how did they get in there?

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

I almost never look at the feed, I must confess. But @ConanOBrien usually has something good going.

What have you been reading lately?

Just started reading “Age Of Persuasion: How Marketing Ate Our Culture” by Terry O'Reilly and Matt Tennant. O'Reilly has an amazing show on the CBC here in Canada.

Who is the most influential person in your life?

Cliché though it is, my mother is quite the rock for me.

Which song do you wish you had written?

“In The Aeroplane Over The Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel.

Does God exist?

Nope. God's an excuse to do all kinds of unreasonable things to each other. But love exists, and that's a pretty solid reason to do all kinds of wonderful things for each other.

We're at the bar. What are you drinking?

Gin and Tonic. Or tasty brew.

Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

A lift mechanic. The irony would kill me.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Veterinarian. I was crazy for dogs when I was a kid.

What song will you have played at your funeral?

When I was a teenager I thought it would be “Street Spirit” by Radiohead. I don't know. Something rad.

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

Our new album “Oh Fortune” just came out on City Slang Records in Europe. It was a total labour of love – five months of sleeplessness and intense work on and off the road. It's the most intense and rewarding project I've ever worked on. It's the best record I've made.

How can we find out more about you?
