It's been a bit of a quiet week here at Shout4Music as far as free downloads are concerned. Not that there's been nothing happening, you understand. It's just it's all been happening very quietly. So, if you're in need of a bit of solace and tranquillity, you've come to the right place. Of course, there's a couple of glaring exceptions to that rule (see entry number 10, for starters). But generally, with this week's download list, even your local librarian would struggle to say "shh, please".

10: Alex Winston And Darwin Deez: 'Kill The Bitch (Velvet Elvis Edit)'

A bit of an anomaly in a top ten mostly featuring quiet (or quieter songs). Darwin Deez teams up with Alex Watson for a slew of angry hip hop lyrics over an incessant bed of the phrase 'Kill The Bitch'. Nice. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/alex-winston-darwin-deez-velvet-elvis

9: The Givers: 'Up Up Up (Duologue Remix)'

This remix by Duologue opens with a series of white noise sounds merged with the most frail of ringing chimes. It then launches into a joyfully mashed regurgitation of its source material. The sound of Robbie the Robot going into meltdown. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/givers-up-up-up-duologue

8: Young The Giant: 'My Body (Two Door Cinema Club Remix)'

A bouncy remix of this Young The Giant song. So bouncy, in fact, you could do a lycra clad work out to it. A song about fighting for the right to be yourself. Collect enough of these and get a free Rocky style montage. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/young-the-giant-my-body-two-door

7: Oh Minnows: 'You'll Never Know Us'

Squelchy keyboards and Bernard Sumner-ish vocals here. Oh Minnows' effort is gloomy and atmospheric with a big sound. What eighties synth based music could have been if they'd just hurried up a bit with the technology. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/oh-minnows-youll-never-know-us

6: Kyla La Grange: 'Heavy Stone'

Folk influences drive this song scurrying through the ears. It starts small and grows and grows into something rather magnificent. Rather uplifting really. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/kylalagrange/heavy-stone

5: Mechanical Bride: 'Colour Of Fire'

A soft, understated tune with gentle harmonies and a gorgeous string accompaniment. As 'Colour Of Fire' progresses, it turns into one of those rounds you did at school. But this is no 'London's Burning'. This is exquisite, elegant and other words beginning with E we can't think of right now. Gorgeous. Download here: http://www.mechanical-bride.com/

4: Daughter: 'Landfill'

Fragility and sadness is a key theme in this week's top ten. And so it is here with this track from Daughter. But this is no self indulgent mope-fest. How could it be when the chorus features the line 'I hate you guts'? Bitter words. Sweet, sweet sounds. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/daughter-landfill-free

3: CocknBullKid: 'Dumb'

Introspection aplenty here in this CocknBullKid track. 'I'm the girl I said I'd never be' runs one lyric over whirling, rippling effects. Impressive. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/cocknbullkid-dumb-ted-baker

2: Tom Williams And The Boat: 'See My Evil' (pictured)

Tom Williams And The Boat released their debut 'Too Slow' earlier this year. The record is a collection of dark, twisted tales over comparatively innocuous sounding tunes. Here, the pace picks up somewhat and the anger becomes palpable - and very growly. Download here: http://www.tomwilliamsandtheboat.co.uk

1: Catherine A.D.: 'Going Wrong'

Catherine A.D.'s song is chilling and heartbreaking. She brings a Rufus Wainwright sensibility to her singing and song writing with strings and a meandering piano. A song about endings, bitterness and disappointments. Bleak but rather lovely. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/stayloose/catherine-ad-going-wrong-free
