Speed is the order of the day in this, the first of our Top 10 Free Downloads of the Week 30/8. With so many remixes in the list, there's a heavy skewing towards songs you can dance to - of all genres. But if you're in more of a chill out, stay at home mood, fear not. There's something for you in the list as well.

10: Othello Woolf - 'Scared of Love' (pictured above)

Want more the 80s revival? You got it. Othello Woolf pursues something of a Cure sound here and elsewhere. Not quite 'Friday I'm In Love'  or 'Love Cats', but heading in the right direction. Download here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2633376/08%20Scared%20Of%20Love.mp3

9: Rod Jones And The Birthday Suit - 'Do You Ever'

If Rod Jones is feeling naked without his usual band, Idlewild, he's not hiding it well. Just check out the name of his new band. This is a heavy, sneering song with an eye across the Atlantic at the Queens Of The Stone Age. Thumpingly good. 8: Lyrics Born Feat. Sam Sparro - 'Coulda Woulda Shoulda (Party Ben Remix)'

No, not the Celine Dion or Beverley Knight song. This one's far more funky. While the original's more rooted in soul, this remix, with its nods to Gnarls Barkley, is perfect for the dance floor. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/deconrecords/lyrics-born-feat-sam-sparro

7: Kenneth Bager - 'The Sound of Swing (Andrea Vittorelli Remix)'

Remember 'Doop' - the Charlston remix by the imaginatively named Doop? If you're up for more remixed jazz, this time featuring endless loops of clarinet, try this for size. Catchy, bouncy and rather fun. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/kennethbager/kenneth-bager-the-sound-of

6: Flowers And Sea Creatures - 'A:M (Live Session Version)'

Synthesised gloominess you'd find on Vangelis' “Blade Runner” Soundtrack. This comes with chill-out meets freak-out vocals. A fantastic (if rather long) exercise in trip-hop. Download here: http://www.buzzinfly.com/ecards/FASC-AM-Live-Session-Version.html

5: WATERS - 'O Holy Break of Day'

A swaggering, echoing song with a trace of 'The House Of The Rising Sun' lurking in the background. Ever wondered what The Eagles - The Next Generation would sound like? Probably not. But here's the answer anyway. Download here: http://soundcloud.com/cityslang/waters-o-holy-break-of-day/s-G0UFQ

4: Civil Civic - 'Street Trap'

Heavy on the Peter Hook-ish bass… hooks, this is a riot of track. Indie dance music with its foot firmly of the accelerator. Don't bother waiting for the lyrics. There aren't any. As Ian Curtis once sang: 'Dance, dance, dance.' Download here: http://civilcivic.com/releases

3: And So I Watch You From Afar - '7 Billion People All Alive At Once (Jape Remix)'

With such a longer moniker and track title, there's barely room for a review. Suffice to say Jape's remix is busy electronica at its richest. It takes you through a wide variety of moods, sounds and aural experiences. '7 Billion People…' features an embarrassment of electro riches, complete with guitars, chanting and drums. Excellent. 2: Jumping Ships - 'Talisman'

Atmospheric wanderings segue into heavy, thumping indie rock here - all delivered at several thousand BPM. Geneva meets early Muse. Dark, eerie and momentous. Download here: http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/articles/downloads/premiere-jumping-ships-talisman#.Tkk0n833LjR

1: You Love Her Coz She's Dead - 'Leap Of Desire I'

Squelchy, fast paced dance music with attitude - and shouty female vocals to boot. But what would you expect from a song whose artwork features someone with their lips wrapped round an open safety pin? High energy madness. More please.
