When's Day: 22 - 28 February 2012

It’s When’s Day – the Day of the When. Each week Shout4Music takes you through the following seven days in musical history with the births, marriage, deaths and anything else that takes our fancy.
An interesting week in music, marking the births of both a Beatle and a Rolling Stone. On top of that, one of those birthday boys will set to work on a film, while the poster boy of grunge gets married.
The week also sees the release of an important album (not that anyone noticed the appearance of Nick Drake’s swan song at the time) and the recording of the first single by one of the giant bands of music.
22 February
Blur's album 'Blur' goes to number one in the album chart (1997)
23 February
The Beatles start filming 'A Hard Day's Night' (1965)
24 February
Kurt Cobain marries Courtney Love (1992). The jury is still out as to whether this was really such a good idea.
25 February
George Harrison's birthday (1943).
Nick Drake releases ‘Pink Moon’ (1972). Drake’s third and final album is a stark affair, devoid of the luscious strings that featured so prominently in ‘Five Leaves Left’ and ‘Bryter Later’. As producer Joe Boyd once said, this was ‘the sound of someone hanging on by their fingernails.’ Here, to mark the anniversary of the release, is the song ‘Parasite’ from the album.
Peter Gabriel releases his album ‘Peter Gabriel I’ (1977).
James release ‘Whiplash’ (1997). So we thought we’d show you the video to ‘She’s A Star’ from the album.
Elliott Smith (pictured) releases ‘Either/Or’ (1997).
26 February
Norah Jones releases 'Come Away With Me' (2002)
27 February
Pink Floyd record first single, 'Arnold Layne' (1967). And here it is in all its gleeful weirdness.
28 February
Rolling Stone Brian Jones is born (1942).
