When's Day - 4-10 January 2012
The New Year sees a new feature here at Shout4Music: where we Shout4When's Day – the day of the WHEN.
Each Wednesday – sorry, When's Day – we'll be listing some of the key (and not so key events) that have happened over the next seven dates in music history: births, marriages, deaths and album releases. We'll be concentrating in particular on events with key anniversaries.
And when it comes to a particularly momentous anniversary or birthday of a particularly momentous album or musician, you'll find a link to a special feature on the subject.
This week in musical history sees a myriad of birthdays for musical heroes as the following list testifies. Did you know that Elvis Presley and David Bowie share a birthday? No. Neither did we.
4 January
The Doors release their album 'The Doors' (1967). To mark the ocassion, here's a video of 'Light My Fire'. No, not the Will Young version.
Bernard Sumner of Joy Division, New Order and Bad Lieutenant is born (1956)
Michael Stipe's birthday (1960)
5 January
Marilyn Manson's birthday (1969). For some reason, he didn't think the name 'Brian Hugh Warner' would suit his image as a goth-metal weirdo.
6 January
Syd Barrett's birthday (1946)
Sandy Denny's birthday (1947). Sandy Denny was one of the key figures of folk music: a vital member of Fairport Convention and an excellent solo artist. Like many music legends, Denny's story ends in tragedy. But that's for another time. In the meantime, check out 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' here.
Alex Turner's birthday (1986)
7 January
Jon Lee, drummer with Feeder found hanged (2002)
8 January
Elvis Presley's birthday (1935)
David Bowie's birthday (1947)
9 January
Jimmy Page's birthday (1944). And to celebrate, here's a video of him playing the guitar with a violin bow. Like you do.
10 January
Rod Stewart's birthday (1945)
Muddy Waters releases 'Hard Again' (1977)
