Howler are one of those bands whose success you just know will escalate rapidly within a matter of months. It didn't take Rough Trade Records long to notice the four-piece. In fact, Geoff Travis was so impressed by the band's EP; he immediately sent one of his A&R reps over to Minneapolis to catch the band live and then sign them on the spot. It was obvious, not just to the A&R rep, but to everyone in attendance that night that Howler are a band with real potential.

Fast forward to present day, the band are currently getting ready to release their debut EP 'This One's Different' (August 1st), which, having already received significant praise, will no doubt go on to receive much more. The EP highlights a huge mesh of emotions, from heartbreak to angst, adoration to longing and in five tracks, the band manage to portray a somewhat quirky yet awesome picture of where their talents lie. 'I Told You Once' is a definite stand-out track, with it's catchy, upbeat melodies over some bitter and depressing lyrics. Jordan Gatesmith's vocals have that nerdy but lovable quality about them that match the quartet's brand of indie-pop perfectly. Although they have been compared to bands like Surfer blood and Girls countless times, Howler have something unique about, whether it's their seemingly mellow attitude or the fact that the EP appears effortless, especially for a debut.

Howler were recently crowned #3 in NME's 'Best New Bands of 2011 So Far' and furthermore were hand-picked by The Vaccines to support them on their upcoming UK tour. This summer is set to be an exciting one for the quartet and even more so when their EP drops in August. Be sure to check out 'This One's Different' when it's released and of course, don't forget to catch the band live when they tour with The Vaccines (tour dates below). For now, enjoy the video for 'I Told You Once' below and prepare to have the track lodged in your brain for a lengthy amount of time.
