The dreaming spires are not all to be envied in Oxford – the current music scene is one of the brightest in the UK, and indie pop quartet Secret Rivals are one of the latest bands to emerge from the city in a haze of jangling guitars and vocal hooks, single 'Once More With Heart' building on the success of 2011's 'Tonight Matthew' with a rare enthusiasm.

It is the vocal duo which attract the first wave of attention, verses reminiscent of early Bloc Party before the female half breezes in, taking control with a confident yet drifting chorus to lure you in. The band are united on their biggest influence, and their collective love of Interpol shines through in the lyrics – a deep sense of longing buried beneath the dancing melodies. It is a combination which has already caught the eye of those on the lookout for talent, with the band receiving 'Track of the Week' accolades on Radio 1 for their more melancholic breakthrough 'Tonight Matthew, 'as well as appearing on their local BBC Introducing and interviewing on 6Music.

With an appearance at Bestival crowning an impressive last year for Secret Rivals, 2012 shows every sign of being a promising year for the four piece. With hauntingly happy backing and a vocal duo whose styles blend into a catchy cocktail, it is little wonder than It's All Happening! snapped them up. 'Once More With Heart' is released on 16th January, with the video available for viewing below:
