Having headlined the Barrowland Ballroom last November, why then are local boys / heroes The LaFontaines supporting The Summer Set at the somewhat smaller Glaswegian venue that is The Garage (albeit in the main room)? Numbers, would appear to be the answer. At least an hour before the Arizonan headliners take to the stage the room is suitably “rammed” to see the quintet do what they do the very best: whip crowds into a frenzy.

Despite jettisoning previous fan favourites such as ‘Superstar’ and ‘The Vulcan’ from their sets in favour of their new, more “sensible” tracks, the band’s music is nothing if not conducive to a party atmosphere. As someone who has saw the band live around ten times, for the first time in summer 2010, it is always a pleasure to witness them perform. And now with tracks such as ‘King’ and ‘Castles’ in their arsenal from debut album Class it would appear that not even the sky is the limit for these entertaining chaps.

Having been there for a similar situation, in the same room, for a support slot for the now defunct Kids In Glass Houses, it is nice to see that the Motherwell-born group have proven that their sound is no longer the combination of hip-hop and indie that shouldn’t work, it just does. With the impeccable pop-rock soundscapes accented with a carefully considered interplay of Kerr Okan’s rapping and John Gerard’s sweet vocals, the band have the party atmosphere honed to perfection (and ‘Pon de Fonts’ is forever unbeatable).

Finishing on the signature ‘Shark In The Water’, the main support act has succeeded in making the crowd suitably warm and sweaty, as swathes of them then gravitate to the merch stand to deliver deserved praise as the wait from the headline act commences.
