Emerging as one of the most promising bands in the United States currently, Cold War Kids are crossing the Atlantic to test the water in Europe. The Long Beach quartet played this year’s Glastonbury in what can only be put mildly as a poor performance, in dismal weather to say the least. They received much hype ahead of their arrival to the festival, mainly voiced through the influential rumbles of Michael Eavis. But one thing is for certain, the band have a more polished and together sound when in more intimate surroundings.
With rain thumping down, dragging morale and spirits down with it, it was to take an almighty performance to pull the mud-cladden crowd round. With a hesitant and unequivocal start Cold War Kids struggled to muster much of a retort. That was until they hammered into ‘Hang Me Up To Dry’ which in turn knocked everyone off their feet and into the mud that they had, had the displeasure of wallowing in all weekend. A savior to the set, maybe and probably remembered as one of the standout tracks of the festival.
‘Robbers and Cowards’ has the same affect upon reflection as their live performance as their album project to your ear. Slightly over flowing with tracks they may have been conviently forgotten about as they act more to clutter the album with mediocraty rather than bolster it. However, with ‘Hang Me Up To Dry’ and ‘We Used To Vacation’ and ‘Hospital’ they have composed three musical lullabies tinged with their own innovative approach.
