GFresh from hanging off the coat tails of the Folliwill clan (Kings Of Leon) New York born, LA trio The Ettes fuse a skittish fuzzed-up garage-rock-punk sound that you could envisage blurting out of New York’s legendary CBGB’s at the early hours of the morning. And if shadowing Kings Of Leon wasn’t enough, they managed rope in their friend and blues-rock genius Dan Auberach (The Black Keys) to master the EP. The punk ethics are devilishly polluted with raucous garage licks no more, than in opener ‘No Home’ with reverb a plenty, the bass pounding of Jeremy ‘Jem’ Cohen is frenetic. But it’s Lindsay ’Coco’ Hames’ seductive purr that’s The Ettes quicksilver trademark. ‘Lo And Behold’ exhibits Coco’s sexual energy, however, nothing like as much on a live stage. And, so, cue the band to incorporate two live tracks in the EP. The second, from NYC’s quaint Arlene’s Groceries, entitled ‘I Heard Tell’ where Coco says “I’m just getting fucking warmed up” and fundamentally the that’s what happens, the EP leaves you in it’s peak, somewhat prematurely. Yet, although we feel cheated, as with many EP‘s, this is an ideal for a dirty rock club, as its danceable garage-rock, waiting to be spun.
