I’m not sure what the cause is, maybe its genuine talent, maybe its fate, but the effect this album had upon me on first listen was instant. From the imaginative song titles, (‘String and Cellotape‘, ‘This Isn’t A Moon It’s A Space Station!’) to the energetic delivery and rough but smooth production values ‘A Classic Case Of Cause And Effect’ is an album I would definitely recommend. Stand out tracks include the truly excellent first single ‘1998‘, previously reviewed here, the vaguely menacing instrumental ‘String And Cellotape’ , the punky ‘The Waking’ with its impressive screamed vocals from vocalist Liv Puente and the creepy (to say the least) ‘Heresy’ with the eye opening lyrics “if you were more than a friend I’d squeeze you till your lungs give in”. Heavy stuff then, but what’s not to like when an album is of such constant quality from beginning to end, including the now obligatory hidden track. If you like your music loud but still occasionally melodic, with lyrics that really get you thinking and occasionally make you say “huh?” you’ll love this album for sure. Laruso are up and definitely coming to a stereo near you!
