Throughout the years this Brighton duo have been responsible for an abundance of amazing tunes. When they get it right they really do get it right. Sometimes though, they can fall short of these high standards – their recent album ‘They Live’ is a prime example of this as they failed to progress musically from the redundant Breakbeat sound that gave them their success four or five years ago. However, it gives me great pleasure to announce that ‘The Power’ casts aside the disappointment of their recent album and not only falls into the anthem category, placing itself up there with their big tunes of yesteryear, but it also shows signs that they are finally moving with the times. It’s a full-on, peak time, crunchy, electro banger – sounding something like a cross between MSTRKRFT and Justice. The song revolves around a tearing, anthemic riff – one that you’ll be humming long after you’ve finished listening to it. The one thing that lets it down is that once it drops, it doesn’t really do anything else. But hey, play it to 500 gurners and I’m sure you won’t hear too many complaints. Long live Evil Nine.
