King Charles Launches “The King’s Music Room” Radio Broadcast on Apple Music
King Charles has launched his own radio broadcast on Apple Music to commemorate Commonwealth Day. Titled “The King’s Music Room,” the King shares his personal playlist, which includes his favorites as well as anecdotes of musicians he’s met.
Recorded in his office at Buckingham Palace, the radio broadcast is accompanied by footage of King Charles as narrator, sitting at his antique desk with a vintage “On Air” sign beside him. Stating that the radio show is “such an interesting and innovative way to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day,” King Charles revealed artists and music from across the Commonwealth and other parts of the world that have formed the “soundtrack to his life.” This includes Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and some contemporary artists such as Davido and Raye.
He also opened up about how music has made an impact on numerous points in his life. In the accompanying broadcast footage, King Charles said, “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places. But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy.”
“The King’s Music Room” isn’t King Charles’s first time sharing his personal favorites with the public. In 2021, he appeared on “Music & Memories With HRH The Prince of Wales,” a hospital radio show for the Hospital Broadcasting Association. In it, he named songs by The Three Degrees, Diana Ross, and Edith Piaf as his favorite pieces.

Of the collaboration with Apple, Rachel Newman, global head of content and editorial of Apple Music, stated, “Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach. Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world.”
Master of the King’s music, Errollyn Wallen, also stated, “You can see His Majesty’s wide-ranging enthusiasm for music in this playlist to mark Commonwealth Day. The Commonwealth has produced more than its fair share of wonderful songs, singers, and musicians, and this fun and eclectic collection is a great reminder of this treasure trove of creativity.”
King Charles isn’t the first member of the royal family to have a collaboration with Apple. In 2021, the Duke of Sussex and Oprah Winfrey worked together on a mental health docuseries. The Prince of Wales also appeared on an episode of the Apple Fitness+ show “Time to Walk” and divulged about his experience and trauma from his air ambulance days.
