Shure Upgrades Its Classic WL Series of Lavalier Mics

Share

There are lots of benefits to using Lavalier mics. They are small, light, and can be easily hidden in plain sight. Shure takes all these benefits and features and upgrades them even further in their already beloved classic WL series. With the WL185m, WL184, and the WL183, Shure strikes a homerun in arguably making some of the best Lavalier mics.

Shure’s WL series of Lav mics are used mainly in professional applications such as conferences, large presentations, and broadcast television but with the newly upgraded mic models, any individual who may be in need of a lapel mic may just want to grab a hold of one. Mainly for three reasons: these Lav mics are shorter, lighter, and lower-profile than perhaps any of the microphones currently out in the market. Needless to say, these mics also have a new and improved sound quality — as expected in all Shure products.

“Our WL series has been the go-to lavalier solution for decades, known for reliability, durability, and full, accurate sound. As wireless technology continues to improve, we saw an opportunity to innovate and evolve the industry-standard WL line into a product that meets the requirements of professionals using today’s modern, digital systems,” Nick Wood, Senior Director, Professional Audio Products at Shure says.

“We’re introducing a product that users already know and love, now with lower self-noise, improved RF immunity, higher dynamic range, and improved max SPL.”

The WL series includes the cardioid WL185m, supercardioid WL184m, and omnidirectional WL183m models, all available with LEMO or TA4F connectors. Shure plans to bundle these microphones with its BLX, GLX-D+, and SLX-D wireless systems later this year.

Each model features a full sound quality, accurate sound pickup, and improved “presence” response.

Shure has also introduced the new WL18Xm lavalier microphone line, boasting an increased dynamic range and improved specifications tailored for compatibility with modern wireless bodypack systems. The updated WL18Xm models are 8mm shorter than their predecessors, making them lighter, more discreet, and easier to handle.

The WL18Xm lavaliers with TA4F connections are available starting at $139, while those with LEMO connections start at $159, available from today.

Now, these prices may seem quite high for Lav mics but we are talking about professional-grade models. With that said, we do think the tag may be worth it considering Shure’s great reputation.
