After first announcing its plans on releasing a new microphone six months ago, Lewitt Audio has finally unveiled the MTP W950 modular condenser microphone — a mic that will bring pristine studio sound to the stage in live performances.
Lewitt Audio claims that the MTP W950 is the condenser microphone that can bring the best of studio technology to the stage. The company has much confidence in proclaiming such as the MTP W950’s system and design was tested by live engineers and big artists such as The Rolling Stones and Kehlani during the beta stage.
While condenser microphones are great recording devices, many people from the industry can attest that they can be tricky when it comes to live performances that make use of loud stages as issues such as durability and feedback usually occur.
The MTP W950 condenser microphone aims to solve this by making use of a one-inch true condenser capsule for high-quality sound that is capable of rear rejection of up to 90% more than the regular handheld condenser microphone.
Given that the MTP W950 is built with a modular system, this condenser microphone can be swapped for wireless and wired (XLR) use. Keeping versatility and convenience in mind, Lewitt Audio has even made the MTP W950 compatible with other transmitters such as Shure’s.
Speaking of swappable functions and versatility, the MTP W950’s polar patterns can also be switched from cardioid to supercardioid, making it more useful in range. It also has a 120 Hz low-cut filter, a 12dB attenuation to help reduce mic sensitivity, and a maximum sound pressure level of up to 152 dB SPL.
Seeing as how this condenser microphone is made for live performances, the mic has a dual-layer design to help eliminate any wind noise and plosives coming from the speaker or performer.
Putting all these features together makes the MTP W950 a great condenser microphone for live performances no doubt. Albeit, the MTP W950 comes at a rather expensive price of $799. Should this be out of your range, then you may try your luck at other great vocal microphones.
