Shure Celebrates 50 Years of the SM7 By Releasing 50 Limited Signature Edition SM7B Collector’s Box Microphone Sets

The iconic SM7 Shure microphone is celebrating its 50 years in the industry and Shure is releasing 50 limited signature edition SM7B collector’s box microphone sets to mark the milestone. With just over 50 units, the limited signature edition of the SM7B is sure to sell out right away as fans of Shure products and professionals in the industry know just how the SM7 microphone helped evolve the industry.

Before becoming the Shure SM7B, the iconic microphone was first released in 1973 as the SM7. It was initially designed for professional broadcasting and voiceovers with many legends and icons such as Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, and Metallica using it. The SM7 was also the mic used by Vincent Prince, the voiceover actor who recorded the haunting and iconic voiceover used on the “Thriller” single by Michael Jackson.

Eventually, the SM7 evolved into what we now know and love as the SM7B — the microphone of choice for many podcasters, streamers, recording artists, and professional broadcasters.

As Eduard Valdes, Associate Vice President of Shure’s Global Marketing, says “In the history of audio, very few microphones have delivered the sound of as many generations of entertainers and creatives as the SM7 family. The fact the SM7B continues to be adopted by new creators, artists, and broadcasters is a testament to the Shure engineers who designed the microphones and all those who have relied on its pioneering audio quality”.

With such a rich history and great influence in the industry, Shure is commemorating the 50 years of the iconic SM7 by releasing only 50 units of signature edition SM7B collector’s box microphone sets. The signature edition SM7B will feature an engraved signature of Shure founder, S.N. Shure, and a set of five custom backplates that stylishly sport vintage Shure logos from 1925 to the 1960s.

The special collector’s box will also have custom packing and a limited-print SM7B poster, heritage booklet, and an alternate screw set with an emblazoned classic Shure logo.

Seeing as how Shure will only be releasing 50 units of this signature edition set, one might think this would cost a lot. Fortunately, Shure will not be selling these sets but will be giving them away to lucky fans in select regions such as the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France. You can sign up for the giveaway by visiting the Shure website or heading over to their #SW-5 booth at the TwitchCon, Paris.
